Barry McGee

  • Painter and graffiti artist

His work draws heavily from a pessimistic view of the urban experience. He describes them as:

  • Urban ills
  • Overstimulations
  • Frustrations
  • Addictions
  • Trying to maintain a level head under the constant bombardmen of advertising

It's interesting to see how the outside, so to speak, has been moved inside to a gallery space. I think he is definately aiming his work at a specific audience because not just anyone really goes into a gallery.. apart from the odd drunk or junkie etc.

I think though, that people can appreciate his work and skills more in a gallery rather than just in the open.
